The Ventura Film Festival launched in 2004 and has screened hundreds of films, typically more than 200 films every summer, and has garnered interest from the global cinema community. The founding executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was selected to take part, together with many of Hollywood's biggest stars, in the 50-year anniversary event of West Side Story and Hollywood's famous footprint/handprint here ceremony recognizing Oscar winners Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, along with Golden Globe champion Russ Tamblyn at the iconic Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This celebration also functioned as the official BluRay premiere by Fox and MGM of the beloved West Side Story, which is generally recognized by critics and fans as the best musical of all time. This prestigious recognition and participation demonstrates the festival's significant influence and distinguished reputation within the entertainment community.
